This "High-End Rustic" home belongs to Tommy and Jo Armstrong. Tom and Jo purchased this lot, which had a small home on it, in 2003. They leveled the home and built their dream home designed by Tom and Jo. Tom and Jo were born and raised in Arizona and brought with them their western theme seen throughout the home, starting with the exterior stone, concrete tile roof and cedar carriage style garage doors. Extensive amounts of glass help maximize lake views. Wood trim is seen throughout the home as well as several species of wood: maple, knotty alder, hickory, oak and pine. The finished basement is done with slate flooring to accommodate lake traffic. There are many stories behind just about everything in their home from heirloom pieces to the Denver Broncos decor in the game room/bar area. The stone fireplace in the great room is a conversation piece. The mantle is a piece of wood that came out of a tobacco plant in Vermont in the late 1800's; the hearth is a truss recovered from a very old structure here in Georgia; the barn wood inserted in the stone was brought with Tom and Jo from a horse property they once owned. Tom also made the mantle in the master bedroom from a piece of that barn wood. In the guest bathroom the sideboard was restored. Jo found the pink marble for the counter top in Tate, Georgia, which came out of the state capitol building in the '60s. Locating the small sink was a challenged. While visiting Oregon, she stopped at an antique shop. There, Jo found the round marble bowl which once was a birdbath, said to be dated back to late 1800's early 1900's. This charming home embodies the deep love of family, as is shown with the ‘crafting room,' which is a tribute to Jo’s mother. Another guest room is a tribute to her father. The rustic, yet elegant, ambience gives the Armstrongs great peace and enjoyment. Living on the lake, they truly feel as though they are on vacation year round. Thank you, and we hope you enjoy the tour.
